Dey Street, an imprint of HarperCollins Publishers, will publish the classic rock memoir The Dirt, by the members of Mötley Crüe and bestselling co-author Neil Strauss, in e-book format for the first time today, July 1, 2014. The e-book is available here: Get "The Dirt" e-book. First published in 2001, The Dirt: Confessions of the World's Most Notorious Rock Band is one of the most outrageous rock and roll books of all time—a nonstop parade of sex, drugs, and rock and roll by one of the most iconic rock bands in history. Today, the book has nearly 750,000 copies in print—confirming Q magazine’s verdict that the book was “the most unputdownable rock book of the year, or, possibly, any year.” In January 2014, Mötley Crüe announced a history-making Final tour through the summer. This tell-all autobiography—“an unabashed, unrepentant look at the way rock ‘n’ roll used to be lived” (Maxim)—explores the rebellious career and fractious partnership of four of the most influential icons of rock history: Vince Neil, Mick Mars, Nikki Sixx and Tommy Lee. Together, as Mötley Crüe, they became the voice of a barely pubescent Generation X, the anointed high priests of backward-masking pentagram rock, pioneers of Hollywood glam, and the creators of MTV's first “power ballad.” Their sex lives claimed celebrities from Heather Locklear to Pamela Anderson to Donna D'Errico. Their scuffles involved everyone from Axl Rose to 2LiveCrew. Their hobbies have included collecting automatic weapons, cultivating long arrest records, pushing the envelope of conceivable drug abuse, and dreaming up backstage antics that would make Ozzy Osbourne blanch with modesty. As the New York Times summarized, “open it anywhere and find a story to remember.” Provocatively written and brilliantly designed, and hailed as “the wildest rock ‘n’ roll story ever told” (San Antonio Express-News), this book includes more than 80 photos for the most exciting and insightful look ever into the Crüe.
The film version of The Dirt is set to debut in theaters globally in 2015, coinciding with the band’s Final Tour. Jeff Tremaine (Bad Grandpa), has signed on to direct the opus. Tremaine’s intention is to make, not just a great movie about a band, but a great movie about four misfits who, despite themselves and everyone else, band together to overcome the odds and change the history of Rock & Roll. "The Dirt' is a movie I've wanted to make ever since I read the book in 2002,” says Tremaine. “I relate to the story on so many levels; my whole professional career has been about boys behaving badly, so I have a real connection to the material. It's awesome to be working with the band at such an exciting time in Motley Crue’s history." The film will be produced by the members of MÖTLEY CRÜE, Rick Yorn, Julie Yorn, Erik Olsen and 10th Street Entertainment.
“Without a doubt, [The Dirt] is the most detailed account of the awesome pleasures and perils of rock & roll stardom I have ever read. It is completely compelling, and utterly revolting.” —Joe Levy, Rolling Stone
“The Dirt is the singularly greatest sex/drugs/rock reading experience of our age. It's one of the all-time great rock bios . . . a good dirty rocking read.” —Charles Bock, NPR
“[A] masterpiece . . . a wind-in-the-face joyride . . . one of the best rock biographies ever written.” —LitReactor
